A Transoesophageal Echocardiogram (TOE) is a procedure that is performed at Coffs Harbour Base Hospital or Baringa Private Hospital by your cardiologist. It involves the passing of a probe with a transducer down your oesophagus and utilises high frequency sound waves to produce high resolution images of the heart.
Your Heart Specialist may want you to undergo this test for a number of reasons which include but are not limited to:
– Assessing valvular lesions to determine severity;
– To detect a cardiac source of embolism following a stroke;
– If you require a cardioversion to revert an abnormal heart rhythm.
