An Echocardiogram is a non-invasive heart imaging test that utilises high frequency sound waves to produce moving pictures of your heart (cardiac ultrasound). This test is conducted by highly qualified Cardiac Sonographers and is used to assess your heart structure and function for any abnormalities.
Your GP or Heart Specialist may request an echocardiogram to assess how well your heart is pumping, to check how your valves are working, to assess the size of the four chambers of your heart, if they can hear a murmur or are suspicious of any other abnormalities.
This is a very useful test for all cardiac patients and can help investigate shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain and palpitations.
